St. C. Light and Power celebrates Public Power Week Oct. 2-8

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The city is celebrating Public Power Week (#PublicPowerWeek), Oct. 2-8. St. Clairsville Light & Power marks the week, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“Public Power Week celebrates the community-owned electricity that Light & Power provides to our community,” Don Smithberger, director of general services, said. “Public power puts the people of St. Clairsville first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our citizens.”

Today St. Clairsville Light & Power has eight employees and four generators, emergency power plants, and two substations. It serves 3,155 residential customers and 300 commercial customers.

“Our service is reliable and safe, and we take pride in serving our friends and neighbors,” Smithberger said. “St. Clairsville Light & Power is proud to have served St. Clairsville for 131 years.”
