Ballint named tourism director

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Tourism Council announced the selection of Barb Ballint as its new executive director.

Ballint will fill the vacancy created by Eugene “Doc” Householder’s retirement in April. The selection was a unanimous decision made by the Belmont County Tourism Council Board of Directors at its May 18 board meeting.

Ballint has been serving as the interim director since March. Prior to that she had been employed as the assistant director for the past two and a half years.

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” Richard Thompson, tourism council board president, said. “Barb will bring leadership and creativity to the tourism office and a deep sense of commitment to our county’s locations, events and attractions. She has served our organization for the past two and a half years building relationships with statewide and local tourism entities. She has brought enthusiasm and excitement to our board.”

Belmont County Commission President Mark A. Thomas, who also serves on the tourism council board, welcomes the appointment.

“The commissioners are pleased with the tourism board’s decision to appoint Barb as its next executive director. We know Barb will continue to serve the tourism board and our residents with great vigor and enthusiasm, and we congratulate her on the appointment.”

Barb’s resume includes experience in planning, administration, communications and marketing. She has served as personnel supervisor for Olsten Temporary Services, Paraprofessional for the Martins Ferry City School District and Martins Ferry Parks and Recreation director. She is a graduate of the Ohio Tourism Leadership Academy and was recognized for the Belmont County Tourism Council’s award-winning marketing campaign. She also serves on the Martins Ferry Hall of Honor Committee and volunteers for Relay for Life.

“First I want to thank the board of directors for their confidence in me naming me executive director,” said Ballint. “I look forward to continuing to serve Belmont County and partnering with the area’s stakeholders in the tourism industry. I am dedicated to Belmont County, not only because it is a great place to live but also a great place to visit.”
