Council discusses building partnership

BRIDGEPORT — Members of Bridgeport Village Council talked about potentially partnering with an organization to make it easier for new businesses to open in the village.

Council heard from Chris Wilson, a department head for the Southeastern Ohio Building Department based out of Washington County, at Thursday’s meeting. The department is responsible for interpreting and enforcing housing and commercial building codes for Belmont, Monroe, Washington and Noble counties. The department reviews and approves building plans for projects taking place in those counties, including new businesses, restaurants and other properties. Bridgeport Mayor David Smith said the possible partnership could be beneficial to new businesses looking at Bridgeport as a potential location to set up shop.

“It could potentially help save them time and money in obtaining permits and licenses,” Smith said.
