St. C. has utility payment drop box

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The city added a new utility payment drop box in the alley behind the municipal building to allow residents greater convenience in paying their bills. Cash payments will not be accepted at that location.

“They used to have to come in here to pay their utility bill, water, sewer or electric. They can drive down the alley now,” Service and Safety Director James Zucal said. “It’s not for cash, but if you have your utility check and don’t want to come to our utility office, you’ll put it in this drop box. You can still come to the utility office, but you can drive down the alley if you prefer and drop it off in the drop box.”

Zucal added that the public had expressed an interest in this convenience.

“It’s common in a lot of other communities,” he said. “I expect a lot of use. It’s more convenient. … They can come down the alley in off hours, 24 hours a day, and drop off their payment.”

The drop box is stainless steel with surrounding brick work.

“We ordered the stainless steel structure, then we had a couple of local masons brick it up,” Zucal said. “It took several days. They poured a pad and then installed the stainless steel structure.”

Zucal credited Brent Gay, an area mason, for the brick work.
