BELLAIRE — Village officials dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s on a $200,000 loan and $50,000 grant, both from the United States Department of Agriculture on Wednesday.

The money will be used to purchase some much-needed equipment for Bellaire — a new garbage packer, a new dump truck and a new police cruiser.

The loan and grant was secured by Village Auditor/Treasurer Tom Sable, Deputy Auditor Marla Krupnik and a volunteer, Lisa Johnson of Bellaire. Present for the signing were Sable, Krupnik and USDA loan officials Theresa Ullman, community program specialist, and Kari Zimmerman, loan assistant. Both Ullman and Zimmerman are based out of the Marietta, Ohio USDA office.

All three vehicles are being purchased via the state purchasing program, which seeks bidders for equipment on behalf of villages and cities in Ohio.

The garbage truck, which cost about $135,000, was built by two different companies: International built the chassis and Rush Truck Center built the rear end.

The dump truck, which cost about $75,000, was purchased from Reichart Ford of Columbus, Ohio. The cruiser, which cost about $39,000, was purchased from Lebanon Ford, of Lebanon, Ohio.

“Federal USDA Funding is something for us to proud of accomplishing,” Sable said following the signing.

Sable said he was also thankful for the past help given by Johnson.

“She actually volunteered her time and services to help this application keep moving forward. … We are grateful to her for dedication to her hometown and giving back of her time to be a part of this boost for Bellaire,” Sable said.

Krupnik noted the process of securing the funding started in May 2018. The loan is for 10 years at 3.785 percent interest rate. The village will start paying it off next year in yearly installments.
