Accused rapist held on $250,000 bond

CADIZ — A local man accused of raping a 19-year-old appeared for a pre-trial hearing earlier this week.

Logan Murral 28, of Bowerston, is charged with rape, a felony of the first degree. He appeared before Judge T. Shawn Hervey Tuesday morning at the Harrison County Courthouse.

The case was presented to a grand jury, which returned an indictment, Harrison County Prosecuting Attorney Owen Beetham said.

“The formal process has started,” he said.

Murral’s council motioned for a request of discovery at Tuesday’s hearing, Beetham said. The motion is a legal request for the court to require the opposing council to turn over information and material that pertains to the case.

There will be an additional pre-trial hearing in a couple of weeks and a trial date will follow, Beetham said.

Murral was arrested on July 12. Detective Robert Toker, of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, led the investigation and was the arresting officer. Beetham said that the alleged rape occurred outside of Bowerston.

The charge of first degree rape carries a sentence of one-to-11 years in prison, Beetham said.

Murral remains in the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held on $250,000 bond.
