Numerous local races on general election ballot Tuesday

MARTINS FERRY — On Tuesday, voters across Eastern Ohio have a lot of important decisions to make when they go to the polls.

The general election ballots in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties feature several important local races for the people to decide. Polling locations open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

Among the races to be decided are:

∫ MAYORAL RACES

Residents of Martins Ferry will also have a choice between incumbent Mayor Robert Krajnyak and candidate John R. Davies, a former councilman.

In St. Clairsville, incumbent Mayor Terry Pugh faces challenges from residents Bill Brooks and Kathryn Thalman. Pugh supports privatization of the city’s water and wastewater systems, while Brooks and Thalman oppose the move. That question, however, will be decided by City Council on Monday, prior to the election.

The mayoral race in Bethesda has three candidates — Samantha M. Burkhead, Jordan L. Castello and Linda Reeves. Incumbent Martin Lucas is not seeking re-election.

Holloway’s mayoral race is also contested, between Kathy Neilson and Joseph E. Schaeffer.

In Yorkville, Fire Chief Dana A. Brown is running against council President Sandy Reasbeck. Incumbent Karen Vargo is not seeking re-election.

In Adena, Mark Anderson, Crystal Carpenter and Brenda Roski are facing off in the mayoral race.

Lester Milo Baker and Jacqueline Sue Humphrey will contend in the Bowerston mayoral race.

David A. Bailey and K. Dwight Busby are competing to be the next mayor of Jewett.

Carol Hehr and Michael R. Ricer will contend for the mayoral seat in Woodsfield.

∫ COUNCIL SEATS

There are five contenders for three at-large seats on St. Clairsville City Council. Linda Jordan, Beth Oprisch, Mike Smith, Perry Jones and Mark Poindexter are in the race.

In Bellaire, Elizabeth A. Dugmore, Jerry Fisher and write-in candidate Daniel L. Young will race for two seats on Village Council.

Carl Thomas Bober Jr., Preston Eberhart and Robert Eberhart Jr. are racing for two seats on Flushing Village Council.

Powhatan Point candidates Joseph A. Asturi, H. Brady Dierkes and David L. Walters are also in the race for two seats.

Marla Brokaw, Beth Ann Burke and Kelly Kropka will contend for two council seats in Adena.

Three candidates, Ruth A. Blackburn, Dennis Bryan Hirschbach and Wendy M. Majewski, are seeking two available council seats in Jewett.

The same is true in Scio, where Carol Sue Davy, Gordon M. Kress and Kari Ann Salsberry will race for two open seats.

∫ TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES

AND OFFICERS

In Belmont County, George M. Kepreos, Ralph E. King and Dennis Morrison will contend for Colerain Township trustee.

Matt Cain and Shawn Thompson will race for Goshen Township trustee.

Roger L. Weaver and Wayne West are in the race for Pease Township trustee.

Gregory Clark, Thomas W. Costine, Carl Lehman and Todd W. Witchey are contending for Richland Township trustee.

Jim Drake and Nancy J. Lucas are in the race to be Union Township’s fiscal officer.

Shane M. Kildow and John J. Spiga Jr. are contending for Union Township trustee.

Martin D. Hissom and Tim Smith are in the race for Warren Township trustee.

Bobbi Jo Billetter, Lisa J. Jenewein and Shaun Leach are racing for the office of Wayne Township fiscal officer.

In Harrison County, Tate Edward Bardall and Karl Phillip Hoop will race for Freeport Township trustee.

Christopher Scott Birney and Walter Ray Carman are running for German Township trustee.

Bart Alan Busby and Ralph T. Ferguson will face off for Monroe Township trustee.

North Township will see a race between Gary A. Myer and Paul Albert Trushell for trustee.

Andrew M. Filippi and John A. Stanko will contend for Shortcreek Township trustee.

Brenda Jo Carter and Heidi Ann Graham will contend for the position of Cadiz Township fiscal officer.

Jessica Renee Brown and Stacy Jo Richter will race for the position of Shortcreek Township fiscal officer.

In Monroe County, Dana A. Parks and Jason E. Williamson are running for Bethel Township trustee.

Paul L. Alleman and Lawrence Rutter are running for Green Township trustee.

Ryan Conley and Dale Ewers are seeking to become Jackson Township trustee.

Carrie J. Heath, Brian K. Nalley and Kevin Weckbacher are in a three-way race for Seneca Township trustee

In Summit Township, Nate Betts, Stephen Dick and Steve King are running for trustee.

Russell Goddard and Trey Taylor will race for Switzerland Township trustee.

Derek Bright and Carlos Nalley are vying for Wayne Township trustee.

Julie A. Hogue and Logan Norman will run for Franklin Township fiscal officer.

Jamie Talkington and Linda Wisvari are running for Salem Township fiscal officer.

Amy D. Carpenter, Diana Clark and Sherry Lallathin will run for Seneca Township fiscal officer.

OTHER OFFICES

Bobbi Gaffney and Cynthia Roski Hunter will race for the position of Adena clerk-treasurer.

Anna Mae Cook and Mary L. McBride are both seeking the post of clerk-treasurer of Freeport.

SCHOOL BOARDS

Charles Jason Ayers, Bill Marinelli and Mike Wallace contend for two seats on the Bellaire Local Board of Education.

Teresa George, April Ogden and Joseph A. Zelek are in the race for two seats in the Buckeye Local School District.

Jerry E. Moore, Kori L. Rosnick and Michael Walters are seeking two seats on the Bridgeport Exempted Village Board of Education.

Edward Henry Banks III, Tracy Marie Mattern and John Eastman Visser are racing for two seats in the Harrison Hills City School District.

Dominic B. DeFelice, Ben Heslop, Donna Joseph and Randy J. Merryman are contending for three seats in the Shadyside Local School District.

Beverly Baumberger Anderson, Kenneth E. Darby, Robert L. Putsock, Denise Riley, Greg Schumacher, Raymond A. Williams and Ron Winkler are racing for three seats on the Switzerland of Ohio Board of Education.

Alan Bretz, Terry A. Puperi and Shaun Roe run for two seats on the Union Local Board of Education.

No candidates have filed for board of public affairs seats in Belmont, Bridgeport and Holloway; village council seats in Fairview; the clerk-treasurer of Wilson; Kirkwood Township’s fiscal officer; two seats on the Ohio Valley Educational Service Center; or for the mayoral seats of Powhatan Point and Wilson.

A three-way races is on in the Buckeye Local School District, where Teresa George, April Ogden and Joseph A. Zelek are seeking to fill a pair of seats on the board of education.

A four-person contest is in the works for two seats on the Edison Local Board of Education between Matt Bordash, Josh McConnell, M. David Reed and Warner Sanders.

Edward Henry Banks III, Tracy Marie Mattern and John Eastman Visser are vying for two seats on the Harrison Hills City School Board of Education.
