Ohio 647 slip repairs to begin Monday

MARTINS FERRY — Orange traffic barrels continue to be in style on various Belmont County roads with slips repairs, resurfacing and the ongoing Interstate 70 Bridges Project underway.

According to the Ohio Department of Highways, the long-awaited slip repair project on Ohio 647 is set to begin Monday in Martins Ferry. The job is expected to last 30 days, pending weather conditions, and be completed June 18.

Since this section of Ohio 647 is located within the city limits of Martins Ferry, the city had to contribute a portion of the funding for the project.

City Council still hopes to de-annex that section of road back to ODOT’s jurisdiction because of its many slip problems. With the city’s coffers often in flux because of revenue issues, city leaders believe ownership of that portion of Ohio 647 should revert back to the state.

Meanwhile some other ongoing projects in the county include the resurfacing of U.S. 40 between Blaine and St. Clairsville, which is expected to be completed Sept. 30.

The I-70 Bridges Project in Belmont County also continues with work occurring between the Marion Street bridge and the Ohio-West Virginia state line. Traffic in both the east and westbound lanes continues to be restricted to one lane and includes crossovers. This project costs about $14 million.

Other ongoing slip projects include:

Ohio 148 near Armstrongs Mills between Ramsey Ridge and Clover Ridge roads. One lane of traffic is being maintained via temporary traffic signals. This job is expected to be done Sept. 30;

Ohio 149 in Stewartsville is closed for a slide repair that is expected to be completed Sept. 1;

Ohio 147 between the village of Bellaire’s limits and Brown Hollow Road is down to one lane for a slip repair job. The project is expected to be finished July 31. Temporary traffic signals are being used there; and

Ohio 7 in Powhatan Point is restricted for the ongoing bridge repair project, which is expected to be finished in less than a month on June 1.
