TRIADELPHIA — There was everything available from custom lighting to Cheerios, and from 2x4s to Tide when the new Menards store at The Highlands opened its doors Monday.

About 20 to 30 customers were in line waiting to get inside when the doors opened at 6 a.m., according to general manager Corey Curtis. By 7 a.m. business “really picked up,” he said. At noon, most parking spots in the lot were filled.

The store is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

“I feel like the work is just starting,” Curtis said. “We just have to serve the community, and make sure we can help people finish their projects and update their houses and whatever else they might have to do.”

Curtis said Menards prides itself on guest service.

“We try to make sure our team is knowledgeable enough to help our guests,” he said. “Our product selection is pretty amazing — especially the things we carry in-stock.”

Curtis said most of the employees were hired from the local community.

Kaylee Flory, an employee in the lighting department, said she relocated to the Wheeling area four months ago from her native Illinois to work at the Menards store in Triadelphia. She has worked at Menards for four years.

“It’s a great company to work for,” Flory said.

“I wanted to come here because there was so much opportunity to see new things. And I love it! The fall foliage is amazing. There are so many more views here than in flat Illinois. I can’t get over it.”

Menards has the items for sale one would expect in a home improvement store — lighting, kitchen cabinetry, appliances, and plumbing and electrical supplies.

Close by, however, is a large grocery department. There also are aisles with an assortment of cleaning products, and automotive and toy sections.

In the middle of the store is a seasonal department, where a forest of artificial Christmas trees for sale is presently on display.

There are also Halloween items, and a large supply of candy is available at the store.
