No shortage of gift ideas for Mom in Ohio Valley

MARTINS FERRY — There is no shortage of gift ideas for moms for Mother’s Day — you can buy her flowers, take her to lunch, give her a gift card to her favorite store and more.

All of these things can be purchased locally.

For a quick bouquet pick on the way to her house, stop by any local Kroger store and you’re bound to find its floral department stocked with beautiful buds for Mom.

If Mom lives far away and you can’t give flowers in person, try calling the local florist in her hometown and asking them to make a special arrangement for delivery to her house.

If you are looking for something more out of the box, one local shop — M and C Boutique of Martins Ferry — is offering a succulent bar for Mother’s Day, which is Sunday. For one price, the shop will provide everything one needs to make a succulent plant arrangement for mom. Prices depend on the size of the container chosen.

“We will supply everything you need to create a beautiful succulent arrangement for Mom, bonus mom, stepmom, Grandma, anyone or yourself,” the boutique notes on its Facebook page.

M and C Boutique, owned by Christina Sipe and Mylissa Roberts — is located on Fourth Street in Martins Ferry.

“We are a part of a boutique owners’ group with members from all over the country who come together to share ideas, support and lift one another up. This was an idea shared in one of those,” Sipe noted.

Roberts added, “We were really excited to try it out in our boutique. It has been very well received and people are loving it. We have had some beautiful creations. It will be going on through Saturday, if anyone else would like to participate.”

If flowers and plants aren’t Mom’s thing but food is, take her to lunch at her favorite restaurant or cafe. For example, one local, longtime eatery — Riverside Restaurant and Bar of Powhatan Point — is offering a Mother’s Day Brunch starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.

“How are you celebrating your amazing mom? We have an idea — brunch on our pavilion,” the eatery notes on its Facebook page.

“Mom gets a free order of fresh doughnut fries and a break, while kids can enjoy our outdoor area watching boats pass by on the Ohio River.”

If Mom doesn’t want to go out, get some food to go instead so she can enjoy her meal in the comfort of her own home. And then wash the dishes if any were used during the meal.

Perhaps your mom likes to shop. Gift cards to her favorite store — a chain or local shop — might just be the perfect way to show your appreciation for her, as they are always the right fit and never go out of style. Gift cards can be used in person at the store or online if she doesn’t want to go out, but wants something delivered instead.

Still not sure what to get Mom? Then you might need to head to a location that offers a little bit of everything. For example, the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville has dozens of shops and gift ideas to choose from. However, if one wants a smaller venue that still offers a variety of items, they may want to check out The Wishing Well in Martins Ferry. It offers crafts, gifts, collectables, jewelry, purses, decorative items, baked goods and more. It is located at 108 S. Zane Highway.

For moms with younger children, a homemade gift or card from their little ones is often the best gift — and keepsake — a mother can receive.

Some moms are harder to shop for than others. Some moms are happy with a simple visit from their children coupled with a nice card. And for most moms, getting to see her children in person, smiling and happy is a gift that no amount of money can buy.
