Bridgeport seeking substitute teachers, bus drivers and others

BRIDGEPORT — Wanted: Some good people who love interacting with children.

The Bridgeport Exempted Village School District is in need of workers in several classified positions, according to Superintendent Brent Ripley.

“We are looking for substitutes in our classified employee positions,” he said.

“We’re looking to get people in for interviews.”

Secretaries, cooks, custodians, aides and anyone who would like to train as bus drivers are needed. All positions are considered entry level and require an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation/FBI fingerprint and background check.

“Ultimately I will interview every candidate,” Ripley noted.

According to Ripley, the board of education recently approved salary increases for these positions. Cooks, custodians, aides and secretaries are paid $11 per hour. Substitute bus drivers make $14 an hour.

“For those substitute bus driver candidates, their training will be paid for by district,” Ripley added.

Custodians and secretaries typically work eight hours per day, while cooks’ hours may be up to seven daily. Aides work six to eight hours a day.

Anyone wishing to apply for any of the aforementioned positions, or wishing to receive more information, can call Ripley at 740-635-0853.

“We are looking to hire individuals to take care of the kids. We have a loving atmosphere here. … We have a very clean campus here at Bridgeport. At this time, we really could truly benefit from subs for custodian, bus drivers and classroom aides. Often, the substitutes get hired for full-time employment in the district.”

The district is also looking for substitute teachers. Currently, the district uses a service to assist in the scheduling of substitutes.

To qualify for a teaching substitute teaching license, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree. Teaching substitutes make $90 per day in the district.
