SHIRLEY TURNER

Shirley Jean Turner, 83 of East Dundee, IL, (formerly of Portage, IN and Garfield Heights, OH), passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Sunday May 7, 2017.

Preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, John Turner, her parents, Steve and Amelia Uhazy, sister, Joyce Jones, brother, Gary Uhazy, and son-in-law, Jim Novak. Survived by her sister, Bonnie (the late Don) Bailey, daughters, Amy (Jim) Panagopoulos, Kitty (the late Jim) Novak, Kris (Ronald) Djuric, and grandchildren, Samantha (Christian) Waldeck, Rachel Novak, Allyson and Nicholas Djuric, and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley grew up on a farm and in her heart remained a naive country girl who would say the funniest, most inappropriate things and not be aware of it. A few of her favorite phrases were “Humdinger”, and would say “You Angel” as a thank you.

Mom was an amazing cake decorator who loved a good game of pinochle or scrabble.

In retirement, she loved to cruise and visit with family and friends. Her favorite hobbies were reading the gossip tabloids, watching reruns of the “Golden Girls” and anything on the game show network. Mom was well known for her personalized card making as she felt her cards were small hugs sent through the mail.

For years, mom seemed to have every disease known to man yet kept smiling. No one could understand why she was so happy….even in her darkest days. When admitted to the hospital, nurses would hear she was readmitted and come to visit her. Ambulance drivers, staff at the dialysis center and her care givers (Kristin, Alla, Christine) would always greet mom with hugs and a kiss on the head. She truly was one of the happiest and nicest people on earth whose infectious outlook touched everyone she met.

As per mom’s wishes, a memorial service is planned for August 5th at St. Ambrose church in Brunswick OH, at 11a.m. with family and friends.

Condolences may be sent to Amy Panagopoulos, 505 Regan Dr., East Dundee, IL 60118.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society.

Mom your love was a rare gift to everyone who had the privilege to know you. You left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide although we cannot see you, you’re always at our side.
