WILLIAM CHANEY

William “Bill” E. Chaney, 89, passed away in his home, a life long resident of Barnesville, Ohio, born November 3, 1927.

Bill practiced law for 61 years, beginning in 1953, joining his father, J.H. Chaney, who opened the practice in 1907.

Bill was a United States Navy Veteran during World War II. He was a graduate of Barnesville High School, graduate of Ohio Wesleyan in Deleware, Ohio, and he received his Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University Law School. Bill was Director/Trustee of the Barnesville Hospital for 54 years, also he served on the Ohio Hills Health Services board, The First National Bank and WesBanco of Barnesville, Hutton Memorial Library, former Peoples and Building Loan, The First United Methodist Church, the Barnesville School District and Board of Education, and the Village Court board.

In addition to his parents, John Henry Chaney and Cornelia (Baker) Chaney, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Martha Dunham and John Chaney.

Bill is survived by his wonderful wife of 63 years, Kathryn “Kay” (Evans) Chaney, whom he married on January 2, 1954; children: Dan (Lisa) Chaney of Jasper, Georgia; and Lynda (Paul) Chaney of Pinckney, Michigan; grandchildren: Zacharie Stephen of Pinckney, Michigan; Andrew (Abby) Stephen of Livonia, Michigan; Ashlee (Mike) Chaney of Jasper, Georgia; Travis (Ginny) Chaney of Jasper, Georgia; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713 and again on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Buehl officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Belmont County Veteran’s Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Barnesville Hospital, 639 W. Main Street, Barnesville OH 43713.
