LOIS McDOWELL

Lois Talbott McDowell, 85, of National Road, Belmont, Ohio, entered into the peace and joy of her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehab, Barnesville, Ohio.

She was born in Tariff, West Virginia on February 26, 1933, the daughter of the late Dallas and Beulah (Keen) Hicks.

Mrs. McDowell, a Licensed Practical Nurse, was a graduate of the Bellaire Hospital School of Nursing, and also completed her EMT training.

She was a licensed hairdresser from the Rose Hill School of Cosmetology, and, in her earlier years, had served as a dental assistant.

Always having an artistic and creative spirit, she held a certificate in professional cake decorating. Her cakes and other baked goods were “Betty Crocker Perfect” and many people got to sample them due to Lois’ kindness and spirit of generosity. She was also an accomplished seamstress, and was always willing to either teach others, or to sew the difficult projects for them.

Mrs. McDowell was a member of Morristown Christian Church, Morristown, Ohio, and was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. As a woman of faith, she shared her life and God’s love through many channels of volunteerism, including her work with the Belmont County Animal Rescue League, Bethesda Summer Camp, Vacation Bible School, the Ohio State Ombudsman program, 15 years with the Belmont County Board of Health, and close to 30 years with the volunteers of Valley Hospice. She also shared the local Belmont/ Morristown weather with WTOV’s News Nine Weather reports.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Talbott, her second husband, Floyd McDowell, and four brothers: Gene Hicks, Jarrett Hicks, James Hicks, and David Hicks.

Mrs. McDowell is survived by two brothers: Norman Hicks, of Columbus, Ohio and Melvin Hicks, of Akron, Ohio, as well as “the best buddies ever”: Jim Fulton, Joel Braido, and Tom McCort. She’s also survived by numerous friends (Lois knew no enemies) and her beloved cats: Tallyho, Teeny- weeny and Titter-tat.

Friends will be received at Campbell-Plumly- Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 a.m., Mrs. Maryann Droll officiating. Interment in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, Lois asks that everyone just love one another and be kind to one another.
