ELIZABETH BARTOSEK

Elizabeth “Betty” L. (Dolak) Bartosek, 92, of Bridgeport, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in the Continuous Care Center of Wheeling Hospital.

She was born in Barton on March 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Andrew and Hester (Dlesk) Dolak.

She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as the church organist for over 75 years and director of the adult and funeral choirs.

Betty was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s Club holding various offices on the parish, deanery and diocesan levels. Additionally, she served on the Lay Deanery Council for many years and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Anthony’s Court. In recognition of Betty’s service to the church she was awarded the Papal Medal from Pope John Paul II in 2001. Betty’s service also extended to the community. She served as a volunteer for over 25 years at Wheeling Hospital. In recognition of her commitment to volunteer service to the hospital, she received the distinguished “Just Because” award.

Betty was a member of the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Bridgeport Friendship Council which is comprised of all Churches of the Bridgeport School District. She served on the Scholarship Team and was co-chairperson for 20 years of the Toy Program, providing toys for children in need.

Betty was retired from the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company.

She is survived by three nieces, Lorlean (Bob) Fialkowski of Bridgeport, Andrea Cowan of Martins Ferry and Georgette Stock of Martins Ferry; great- nephews, Bryan (Roberta) Fialkowski of Cleveland and Tim (Ashley) Fialkowski of Orlando, FL; great-greatnieces and nephew, Vincenza Maria, Anna Elizabeth and Andrew Robert Fialkowski; several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and close friends and a brother-in-law, Jay Stock.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter R. Bartosek and a sister, Julia Mae Stock.

Friends may call Sunday from noon-7 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Bridgeport. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst, with Father John Mucha officiating. Entombment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
