MARY LOU FODOR

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Fodor, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. She passed surrounded by all six of her children at her bedside on May 20, 2019. She was 84.

Mary Lou was born on July 1, 1934, in Martins Ferry, Ohio; she was the daughter of the late Louis Fodor and Julia Fodor. She moved to Phoenix in 1984 and became an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns. Her favorite Sun’s player of all time was Charles Barkley. She never missed a game!

Besides being an amazing mother, Mary Lou was also a remarkable cook and baker who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially during the holidays. She spent countless hours making her own chocolate candies and other dishes from scratch. Her many dishes including Chicken and Dumplings, Cabbage Rolls, Stuffed Peppers and Little Chickens will be missed by all.

Mary is survived by her six children: three sons; Michael Hankish and wife Nelly, Ken Hankish and wife Cecilia, and James Hankish and wife Ana; three daughters, Tracey Rohr, Carla Schrader and husband Marty, and Stephanie Lutz; as well as her brother, Steven Fodor; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on August 10, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 20 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry; interment immediatley following the mass at Saint Mary’s Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at the church.

“Mom, nana, and friend, you have given so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, for teaching us, listening to us, helping and forgiving us, loving us and always, alsways paving the way for us. We will work hard to reach the standard you set. Farewell sweet mom. You were simply magnificent.”
