BDD preschool prepping for new year

EVEN THOUGH school is out for the summer, work is under way to prepare for a new school year at the Harrison County Board of Developmental Disabilities Preschool.

Applications are being accepted now for children aged 35 who would benefit from preschool education. The tuition for typically developing (TD) students has been reduced to $100 per month for the 2010-2011 school year, while children who have been determined to have a developmental delay are not required to pay a fee to attend preschool.

All children must be screened through either Help Me Grow (from birth to age 3) or Harrison Hills (ages 35).

For more information about enrolling your child in HCBDD preschool, please call the Harrison County Board of Developmental Disabilities at 740-942-2158.

THE JEWETT Ruritans recently held a meeting in the basement of the Jewett Presbyterian Church. Raffle winner for the first of the gun was announced. The gun went to Barb Thompson and Jan Wrikeman who purchased the winning ticket together.

Five more gun raffles will be held.

Tickets are going fast, according to Ruritan members. Each gun is a 17 calibre Varmit Express lever action rifle. The guns are made in the United States. Winners may choose to have the gun personalized with their name or other information for $35.Each gun’s stock is engraved with Jewett High School, 1905 to 1971. Tickets are $10 each and only 80 tickets are being sold on each gun. If a raffle winner would go with a cash option, they would be given $400 in cash in place of the rifle. However, individuals may purchase a gun outright for $600. The Jewett Ruritans fund stay in the community and benefit local residents.
