Chicken dinner to benefit Cadiz man

A CHICKEN dinner benefit is set to help a Cadiz man paralyzed in a hunting accident.

Bobby Myers fell from a treestand while hunting on Nov. 20, 2009, landing on his back, breaking vertebrae that pinched his spinal cord and resulted in paralysis from the waist down. Since then, family and friends have gathered to raise funds for medical and other costs.

The benefit will be held Aug. 7 at Wallace Lodge in Sally Buffalo Park.

Events begin at noon and include a chicken dinner with beverage, a gun bash, cornhole tournament, mud volleyball, reverse raffle, silent auction and a DJ.

Anyone interested in donating items for the auction may contact Dewey at Kenwood Vinyl at 740-942-2981. Monetary donations may be made in advance to the Bob Myers Benefit Fund, c/o Huntington National Bank, 657 Lincoln Ave., Cadiz, Ohio, 43907.

U.S. Route 22 will be closed to traffic next Thursday, July 29, for 15 days just west of State Route 519 in Moorefield Township, Harrison County, for the removal of a bridge over an abandoned coal haul road.

ODOT’s contractor, B.O.G. Construction Inc., from Berlin Center, began work about a month ago to construct an earthen fill beneath the existing bridge set to be removed. New pavement will also be built in place of the structure and approach slabs, and the existing guardrail will be removed as part of this project.

Beginning at the intersection of U.S. 22 and SR 331 in Piedmont, traffic will be detoured east on SR 331, then east on SR 149 to SR 9 north to SR 519 west back to U.S. 22, and reverse.

The cost for this project is $220,687, and the completion date is mid-September 2010.

ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the “Cone Zone;” turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions turn OFF cell phones in construction zones.
