Dickerson church holding homecoming

THE ANNUAL Dickerson Church Homecoming will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m.

The church is located on Dickerson Church Road, just off of S.R. 9 between Cadiz and New Athens. Pastor Richard Hasley of the Scott United Methodist Church in Cadiz will be the guest speaker for the service.

The church was constructed in the 1800s and is surrounded by an old cemetery. The building and grounds are maintained by a group of dedicated people who work to preserve the building and its history.

The annual homecoming draws numerous individuals from the local area as well as from across the country and is open to the public.

THE JP Pyles Memorial Scholarship Foundation is sponsoring its annual fundraiser on Aug. 14

A poker run will begin at Bob’s Pub in Scio with registration at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 per person or $20 per couple. All bikes will be out by 11 a.m. A roast beef dinner for riders is included in the registration fee.

The dinner, compliments of the Scio Volunteer Fire Department and the Scio American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, is also open to the public from 4-7 p.m. at the Legion. Tickets are available in advance or at the door.

A dance will also be held there from 8:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Cost to attend the dance only is $5 per person.

A silent auction will be held along with a 50/50 raffle and chances to win a 42-inch flat screen television.

THE BETHEL United Methodist Church Annual Fun Fest will be held today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The church is located on S.R. 151 between Jewett and Scio.

Gospel music will be provided throughout the day with a “great” lunch stand available featuring homemade noodles, pies and much more. Takeouts are welcome.

A flea market and bake sale will also be held.

Organizers encourage everyone to bring along their lawn chairs for a day of fun.

On Sunday, the church will hold an outdoor service at 9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

A BLOOD drive will be held on Aug. 11 from 12-6 p.m. at the Scott United Methodist Church in Cadiz. To register or for more information, call the church office at 740-942-2825.

THE YOUTH Group of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz is holding its first annual Schwan’s food pick up day.

The group will earn 20 percent of the total sales from the event. The proceeds will benefit the youth program which is currently in its beginning stages.

The group currently is renting the Development Disabilities gymnasium where members can play basketball, etc., enjoy food and other activities. An outing to Cedar Point on Sept. 18 to attend the Point Fest is also being planned. Several Christian bands will be performing that day including Family Force 6, Disciple and David Nassar. DEPOSITS ARE currently being accepted for a bus trip to Asheville, N.C.

Sponsored by the Clark Gable Foundation, the trip will include a guided tour of the Asheville, the Biltmore Estate, Grove Arcade, the Folk Art Center and St. Lawrence Basilica as well as a stop at the Harrison Casino.

A $75 deposit is required to hold a reservation.

A CHARITY Golf Outing will be held on Aug. 28 at the Cadiz Country Club. The event is being sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cadiz.

THE CADIZ High School Alumni Banquet will be held Aug. 14 at the Hopedale Social Hall. Social hour is from 4-6 p.m. while dinner begins at 6 p.m. followed by a program during which members of the classes of 1960 and 1985 will be honored.

Cost is $20 per person. Yearly dues are also payable at $6 per person.
