Scio Cash-A-Rama scheduled March 19

LOOKING FORWARD to the 4th of July, the Scio Civic Club will host a Cash-A-Rama on March 19.

Tickets are $15 per person and includes an all-you-can eat spaghetti dinner and entry into the reverse raffle drawing which will feature the following prizes: $750 grand prize and $700 total in additional prizes to be awarded throughout the night. There will also be chances sold for a 50/50 drawing along with an auction.

Dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. with the drawings beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The dinner is being provided by the Scio Sons of the American Legion.

THE OHIO Department of Transportation has announced the S.R. 799 will be closed to traffic Monday, Feb. 14, for two days at Clendening Lake for a culvert replacement.

There will not be a posted detour for this project.

This work is part of a $173,793.50 project performed by Ohio-West Virginia Excavating Co., from Powhatan Point. According to ODOT, similar work was completed last year on three culverts in Belmont County.

TONIGHT from 6-9 p.m. a dance for students in grades 2 – 6 will be held at the Jewett Wildcat Community Center. The dance will be well chaperoned and have a concession stand. Parents are all welcomed to stay. Once a child is dropped off, they will not be permitted to leave until they are picked up by a parent or designated person.

COPIES of the 2001 edition of the Farmers Tax Guide are available free of charge at the Harrison County Office of Ohio State University Extension.

According to Mike Hogan of the Extension Office, the publication is useful to farm families when preparing farm tax returns for the 2010 tax season. Such returns are due to be filed with the IRS by Feb. 28.

The guide contains specific information about farm tax changes which includes an increase in the deduction for start-up costs, increased Section 179 deduction limits, many depreciation change among other details.

The office is located in the Harrison County Government Center at 538 N. Main St., Cadiz, and is open during regular business hours. More information may be obtained by calling 740-942-8823.

A DEERSVILLE woman is working on funding to bring a Friendly Fire Monument to the village.

Mary Jane Engler, along with the Deersville Improvement and Historic Preservation Society, has been hoping to fund the memorial which will honor those victims of friendly fire during wartime.

The anticipated bronze sculpture would be centered in Union-Patterson Cemetery and would feature the likenesses of nine soliders from the American Revolution to modern conflicts.

Engler hopes the project will be completed by 2015, in time for Deersville’s bicentennial.

THE DEERSVILLE Volunteer Fire Department will also be hosting a Valentine’s spaghetti dinner on Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The love offering only event will be held at the firehall. Eat-in or carry-out.

HAVE YOU ever wanted to be a beekeeper?

Here’s your chance to jump on that band wagon!

A four-week program, sponsored by the Ohio State University Extension and the newly formed Harrison County Beekeepers Association, will be held at the Harrison Career Center Feb. 15, 22 and March 1, 8.

Registration is $50 per person and includes all classroom sessions, a manual, course handouts and a field day in April and more.

THE HOPEDALE American Legion Women’s Auxiliary holds a weekly fish fry each Friday from 12 – 7:30 p.m. at the post home.

Good food with the proceeds going to a great organization!

A BAKED steak and chicken dinner will be hosted by the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department on Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the firehall.

Cost is $8 for the adult meal and $4 for a children’s portion. All proceeds will benefit the fire department.
