Hopedale Sportsman’s Club barbecue on tap

THE HOPEDALE Sportsman’s Club will hold its annual barbecue on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lou’s Fish in Hopedale.

Available as carry out or eat in, the dinner will feature half chicken for $8 or half a rack of ribs for $10 and includes cole slaw, scalloped potatoes, green beans.

ALTHOUGH ACTIVITIES kicked-off last night for the Moorefield Township Fireman’s Fair you can still enjoy the event tonight.

At 3 p.m. kids of all ages will be able to participate in some old fashioned games.

Beginning at 4 p.m. the food stands will open featuring the always delicious barbecue chicken.

The inflatable rides will also open at 4 p.m.

The annual auction will begin at 5 p.m. and from 8-11 p.m. Rogers Orchestra will be providing music for dancing and entertainment.

At 10 p.m. the 2011 queen will be crowned followed by drawings, raffles and games.

A COMMUNITY Yard Sale will be held July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Adena.

Sponsored by the Adena Heritage Days Committee, individuals may participate and those on-residents wishing to hold a sale may call 546-3946 to inquire about available space. In addition to the sale a lunch stand will be available at the Adena Community Center.

ON THURSDAY, July 7 the Funky Monkeys Relay for Life team will sponsor a unique event in Cadiz at Sally Buffalo Park’s Wallace Lodge outdoor stage.

From 6-10 p.m., a free public concert presented by Sean Carney’s Blues For A Cure and local recording studio Tony’s Treasures Productions, will feature award winning musical talent.

Showcasing the talents of 2006 Guitar Center “King Of The Blues” national Champion Matt O’Ree band from New Jersey; special guests the 2005 International Blues Challenge “Albert King” guitarist award winner Jonn Richardson from Houston, Texas and 2007 International Blues Challenge “Albert King” guitarist award winner Sean Carney from Columbus, Ohio, the evening will open with local teen talent Sam VanFossen, a music major at the renowned Belmont University School of Music in Nashville.

Freewill donations will be accepted for The Funky Monkeys Relay For Life team, as well as items available for auction.

Food, water and soda will be available for purchase, catered by John Hursey’s Canal House and The Funky Monkeys. Please bring your own adult beverages if desired along with lawn chairs and blankets.

The concert will be moved to the barn at Sally Buffalo in case of rain.

AN INDEPENDENCE DAY weekend celebration will be held July 1-3 at Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz.

Numerous events are on the schedule including a Saturday night fireworks that is guaranteed to be one of the best in the area.

In addition, attendees will be able to enjoy a wide variety of food and beverages, music, tournaments, a scavenger hunt and inflatable rides.

The breakfast is being served by members of the Cadiz American Legion Post 34 Auxiliary and SAL and will feature pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast and beverages at a cost of $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Can’t beat that price!

THE CADIZ High School Alumni Association will hold its annual Golf Outing on Aug. 12 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Cadiz Country Club.

Cost is $60 per person.

The annual Alumni Banquet will also be held that evening at the Hopedale Social Hall.

HIKERS! Put on you boots!

For the June Harrison County Hiking Club event, Ray Ferrell plans to lead an “on road” Buckeye Trail hike from Smyrna to the Skull Fork Covered Bridge. This is only a 1.9 mile hike and anyone that wants to can stop at this point. For those that want to go on, the hike will continue on the Covered Bridge Road to Dry Ridge Road – making a total of 3.1 miles from Smyrna. The group will meet at the Skull Fork Covered Bridge at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday June 26.
