Entertainment abounds this weekend

IF YOU are looking for something to do this weekend, Harrison County has a lot to offer.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 4 p.m., the members of the Bethel Methodist Church located on S.R. 151 between Jewett and Hopedale will be hosting its annual Fun Fest.

The event will feature gospel music, a bake sale and flea market long with a fantastic lunch stand featuring homemade noodles and pies. Take outs are welcome.

Everyone is invited to bring along their lawn chairs and spend the day.

MORE ENTERTAINMENT will be available today at Mickey’s Mountain near Hopedale when organizers host the August Bluegrass Festival featuring a wide variety of group and individuals.

Beginning at noon, the Sheppard Brothers will take the stage and will return to entertain the crowd at 5:45 p.m. Out of Mind is schedule to perform at 12:45 and 6:30 p.m. while Brand New Strings will be on stage at 1:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

Donna Ulesse and the Poor Mountain Boys will wow the crowds at 2:15 and 8 p.m. Big Country Bluegrass is scheduled to perform at 3 and 8:45 p.m. to be followed by Ralph Stanley II at 3:45 and 9:30 p.m.

Junior Sesh and Ramblers Choice will conclude the afternoon scheduled at 4:30 p.m. and the evening shows at 10:15 p.m.

Saturday adult gate charge is $25 per person. Children under 13 are admitted free while those 14-18 years of age may attend at half price.

Calvin Mickey, event organizer, said a working man’s ticket may be purchased for $15 for those attending after 6 p.m.

Terraced seating is offered in the stage area while two pavilions are also on site.

Camping is $6 per night with utility hookups available for $12.50 each night.

Mickey also noted a concession stand featuring some of the best home cooking around is available.

IF YOU still haven’t found just the thing to do this weekend, try to Tippecanoe Homecoming Festival.

Today’s activities kickoff with breakfast at the United Methodist Church from 7-11 a.m. Featuring a wide variety of breakfast treats, the breakfast is hosted by the church.

At 11 a.m., things start to happen at the community’s volunteer fire department’s hall with a flea market, craft show and concession. At 1 p.m. a kiddie and senior pedal tractor pull will be held.

The annual parade is set to commence at 6:30 p.m. with lineup scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the festival benefits the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and its EMS.

ON WEDNESDAY evening, the fun will continues as Tony’s Treasures Production presents a free public concert to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team The Funky Monkeys on the outdoor stage at Wallace Lodge in Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz.

From 7 to 10 p.m., several musical acts will take the stage featuring Columbus-based singer Jonalee White, NBC’s Star Tomorrow and CMT Music City Madness Finalist along with her band featuring Michael Nugen, Molly Pauken, Kay Harris, Pete Cary, Nate Hollman and Barry Damron.

Other musicians scheduled to take the stage are local musicians Abby Dodds, Cody Romshak and Corrina, Lorne and Sam VanFossen.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Those attending my bring their own adult beverage.

In case of rain, the concert will be held in the big barn at the park.

IT’S NEARLY time for one of the area’s biggest festivals to get under way the annual Scio Fall Festival!

This year’s activities will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 17 and will conclude on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Wednesday’s activities will include the run/walk that is always a big draw for the event.

Other activities will include the Friday evening parade and Saturday’s 26th annual Show & Shine Car Show on Eastport Street in the field across from the B&F Dairy Bar. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. The show will then run until 3 p.m.

Entry fee is $6 per car with dash plaques to be awarded to the first 150 cars.

Judges will pick the top 30 favorite cars with a total of 50 awards to be presented in a variety of categories including: local merchants awards, antiques, best of show, Camaro, Chevy 55-56-57, Chevelle, Corvette, custom, interior, longest distance, Ford, Dodge, Mopar, Mustang, Olds/Pontiac, paint job, Plymouth, special interest, import, street machine, street rod, truck, under construction and unrestored.

Major sponsors for the event include Clearfork Trucking, Budweiser, Hopedale Mining LLC, Knight Auto Repair, Mattern Tire and Brake and Oxford Mining.

Music will be provided by Spikeman aka the Ski-OOOOOMid.

Proceeds from the show and festival benefit the Scio Volunteer Fire Department and the Scio American Legion Post #482.

Rides, music, games, food and much more will be available throughout the festival including fireworks at dusk on Saturday evening, weather permitting!

THE HARRISON Central Athletic Boosters will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Catering Cafe in Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz on Aug. 13.

Boosters will begin serving breakfast at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and welcome everyone to attend. Cost is donation only.

The Boosters support all sports programs at Harrison Central High School.
