St. C. Library chosen for summer grant

THE St. Clairsville Library has been chosen as one of 20 libraries to receive the 2015 Summer Teen Intern grant. The library was chosen by the Young Adult Library Services Association, (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association.

The grant will allow the library to hire a teen intern to assist in the implementation of its Summer Reading Program which begins June 2. The grant is possible through sponsorship from The Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Malinda Newman, a library staff member, wrote the grant, the second nationwide YALSA grant that the library was awarded this year.

“This is an exciting initiative for St. Clairsville teens,” said Robyn Vittek, library director. :It has become increasingly difficult for teenagers to land part-time jobs in recent years. The teen summer intern position will provide an opportunity for a local student to gain real world work experience and develop professional skills, as well as earning a little spending money.”

The successful applicant will receive a stipend of $800 at the end of their term which will require a commitment of about 10 hour a week through the duration of the Summer Reading Program.

Students between the ages of 16-18 and enrolled in school or home school for the 2014-15 school year are eligible to apply. They must be either a resident of St. Clairsville or attend school in St. Clairsville, Applications are available from school guidance counselors. at the library and on the library’s website.
