FRIDAY, May 8, is a special one in the history of our great nation. It was on May 8, 1945 when World War II ended in Europe. There were all kinds of celebrations all over our Ohio Valley. Church bells rang and fire whistles and horns were blowing. Although the war in the Pacific was still being waged, everyone sensed that the conflict there would end soon and that our troops would be coming home. We hope everyone remembers that day. Let us take a few minute to get on our knees and thank God for that Greatest Generation who made many sacrifice to keep our country strong, safe and free.

“CUTTING CLASS For A Cure” will take place on Friday, May 15, from 8 a.m to 3 p.m at the Barnesville Middle School. This marks the sixth year for the event which is designed to raise funds for the 3C Cancer Support Group, an organization which offers financial support to cancer patients living in Belmont County. Last year the students raised $13,000.

The way it works is that kids pay a dollar for each class they want to cut. When they cut class they can go outside or to the gym m where food vendors and games are set up. Kids can walk the track, play cornhole or frisbee, etc.

While the kids make up the large portion of those attending, members of the community are also welcome to attend.

Denise Leach, middle school teacher is in charge of this year’s event. She said some 3C members always come to volunteer. “We really appreciate it, especially since their event, (The Annual Cancer Walk), is just a couple of weeks away from ours.”

Leach said the students appreciates the donations sent in by businesses. She said the group has a Facebook Page, “Barnesville Middle School Cutting Class for a Cure”.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and any donations can be sent to Banesville Middle School,” she said.
