McKivitz’s fine effort recognized

McKivitz’s fine effort recognized

MORGANTOWN — These are good times in Touchdown City.

After being picked by many to finish in the middle of the pack of the Big 12, the Mountaineers enter their sixth game this week undefeated and ranked No. 12 in America. Not bad for a team that didn’t garner a single AP Poll vote for the first three weeks of the season.

Part of the success of the Mountaineers has been due to the play of both Colton McKivitz and Michael Ferns.

Both area products drew high praise this week. In Thursday’s edition, we wrote a feature on Ferns being named WVU’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

McKivitz, who played at Union Local and won a job as a starting offensive lineman in camp, was named the Big 12’s top offensive tackle for Week 7 by ProFootballFocus.com. The website listed McKivitz with a 79.2 average, which was the fifth highest in the country, according to the site.
