Field for Kids

INVESTING IN our youth is certainly reflected in “The Field for Kids” program. That theme was reinforced once again Saturday in St. Clairsville.

St. C. Junior Sports officials played host to Pittsburgh Pirates’ Chairman Bob Nutting and former Bucs’ star relief pitcher Kent Tekulve to help christen the renovated North Market Street Junior Field.

The “Field for Kids” program provided needed funding to make an extensive makeover project at the field come to fruition. The program provides up to $5,000 in matching grant monies.

Fueled by the extra funding, St. C. Junior officials performed extensive and much-needed repair work that otherwise would not have been possible. The facelift — buoyed by assistance from volunteers and local supporters — included an enhanced drainage system, new dugouts as well a new playing surface.

As a result, St. C. Junior Sports participants are now able to call home to a facility second to none, one which promotes pride within the organization as well as the entire community.

It will serve as a recreational showcase for years to come and underscores the commitment St. Clairsville has in its youth.

Mr. Nutting noted that, “The Pirates are pleased to work with community-driven leaders and are committed in our desire to improve youth fields throughout the tri-state area.”

We agree with Mr. Nutting that St. Clairsville boasts civic leaders who have the vision and passion when it comes to their city’s best interests and what it takes to make it happen.

We also tip our caps to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Mr. Nutting for their support and belief in the youth of the Ohio Valley. “The Field for Kids” program is making a positive difference for thousands of young players, which in turn can provide a positive impetus in their game of life.
