Library Week

Libraries are a great resource for any community that is lucky enough to have one. They hold a vast amount of knowledge for anyone who walks through its doors. Books enable the reader to transfer to another world with a flip of a page.

Over the years, as technology has improved and transformed, libraries now provide computers, electronic books and much, much more for the those who choose to occupy its space.

In honor of these valuable resources, April 12-18 has been designated as National Library Week. This week was first sponsored in 1958 by the American Library Association. It serves as a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians who support and promote the facilities.

Libraries in the local area are celebrating this week in several different ways. Throughout the week, libraries and librarians have planned fun and educational events for children and families to celebrate.

Wednesday, Children’s author Kristen Willis will be reading her latest book, “Honey’s Big Adventure” and conducting a book signing with children in Martins Ferry at 1 p.m. Thursday, A Gardening Program for adults and youth in Martins Ferry.
