Visit our state parks

For Ohio’s state parks, the pandemic proved busier than normal, as residents visited in record numbers to enjoy outdoor activities safely. Given the variety and natural beauty Buckeye State parks provide, it is no wonder people flocked to them to escape the grind of more than a year’s worth of worry and restrictions.

Now, those parks and watercraft facilities are fully open to in-person activities for the summer.

“The Ohio State Parks team is so happy to welcome our guests back for in-person activities and programming this summer,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Families can plan for group activities, such as reunions, and visitors of all ages are welcome back to our nature centers and educational programming.”

Newly reopened facilities include group activity areas such as shelterhouses and other day-use group facilities; nature centers; campground stores; pools; park offices; and commissaries. Many areas which may have had limited occupancy have returned to pre-pandemic rules.

Even tours of sites within state parks have resumed. Of course, there is still a need to be cautious, particularly for those who remain unvaccinated. It is smart for those folks to continue to wear their masks. And everyone should continue to wash and sanitize hands, maintain distance and generally be mindful of stemming the spread of germs.

It is a small price to pay to be able to enjoy the wonders of Ohio’s state parks again. Seize the opportunity, ladies and gentlemen. You won’t regret it.
