Stop the flow of hate

Regardless of how you feel about a range of socio-cultural and political matters, there’s one thing upon which nearly all of us must agree.

Nazis were evil, and we must never again commit the sins that were committed in the name of Nazism.

But it seems the past tense might not be appropriate in that regard, as over the weekend, a few folks felt compelled to violently and hatefully voice their opinions about an all-ages drag show near Akron, Ohio.

Video footage and still images obtained by multiple news agencies show the crowd protesting the show included a group of what appear to be men holding a sign that says “There will be Blood,” and giving the Nazi salute.

Again, setting aside opinions about the appropriateness of an all-ages drag show, think for a moment about what it means that such a crowd of people willing to toss up Nazi salutes and carry signs threatening societal violence was able to gather in Ohio.

How do we stop the flow of that kind of poison through our culture and our politics once it gains momentum?

We have to be better than that.
