FDR

Dear Editor,

Is it de’ja vu all over again? Conspiracy theories are nothing new. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt inherited the same situation as President Barack Obama.

When I was a young girl my grandfather had just turned 65 and got Social Security. He had spent his entire life as a coal miner. He and my grandmother raised eight children, nine, including me. He died a few months later and Social Security, thankfully, took over for my grandmother.

He never made money to accumulate a nest egg. He made a garden down by the river instead. He and my grandmother loved the Lord. I got the benefit of that. He didn’t complain. He was grateful. He didn’t get something for nothing. He earned it.

I am fed up with the Republicans whining, Sarah Palin’s rabble rousing and the tea parties.

I believe our President’s life could be in danger, not because he is black and not because he isn’t smart enough; but, because he has a dream. That’s why he was elected. Some people can’t handle that.

This is not socialism. It is called compassion. People are out there hurting. Our Bible says we will always have the poor with us, and we are to help them.

Do you really believe that if you vote Republican in the next election that everything is coming up roses? Well, wake up and smell the coffee. What have they done for us?

If President Barack Obama succeeds, we all win. If not, we need to all pray. We are in this together. He is doing the best he can, given the circumstances he inherited.

Sincerely,

Georgetta Ellis
