Bellaire Levy

Dear Editor,

I live in the Bellaire School District and am concerned about the proposed 12.9 mill levy.

You may not know that years ago the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional to fund schools through property taxes. Since this ruling nothing has been done so far to fund schools another way.

People on fixed incomes can not afford the increase. People on Social Security will not get an increase again in 2012.

If most people are like my husband and myself, we do not live above our means.

I don’t know what we could give up to pay this increase.

Are we to not have balanced meals, do without medicine or lower our thermostat lower than we already do?

The superintendent, Mr. Scott, made this statement. He thought the levy did not pass in May because they did not have time enough to properly inform the people about the need. It is plain and simple: it did not pass because people can not afford it.

Mr. Scott and the school board do not care about the harm it will do to the tax payers.

They only care about their own agenda.

Sandie Horvath,

Shadyside
