Group endorses school levy

Dear Editor:

Much like our schools, the Harrison Hills City School District Fund was created for the purpose of supporting our students.

We are here to invest in the work of our teachers, and, through our support to students, we also invest in the future of our community.

Our mission is to create opportunities for our students through access to experiences, equipment, and learning that they might not otherwise have. We know, however, that our fund can only have an impact in partnership with our schools and it is time to ensure that the Harrison Hills City Schools are the best we can offer our students. That is why the Harrison Hills City School District Fund supports the school levy.

While we all have fond memories of attending the schools in our county, it is becoming ever clearer that the average age of our school facilities is 92 years old.

The last renovation on any one of them was in 1961. The class of 1961 has seen its 50th reunion come and go.

And there is no doubt that there are different expectations for what our students today will learn and experience in their time at school. The goals of this new educational facility will have these needs in mind for the over 1,400 students the building will serve.

Support from the state of Ohio right now is strong.

The state is offering a $25 million investment in our school district to build a new school. We must take advantage of this offer to build the school that can serve our students for decades.

We all rally around our community’s children in many different ways.

We attend their sporting events, support scholarships, and participate in car washes. Showing our encouragement to our students is so important to building their belief that they can do anything, but we also need to make sure they have the skills and experiences they’ll need to follow through.

Passing this levy is something we can all do to show our kids that we believe in them and that we know they are the greatest community investment we can make. Please join us in encouraging our children and building Harrison County’s future.
