County increase in license fees
Dear Editor,
The Belmont County commissioners approved a $15 per vehicle increase in license plate fees for road and bridge repairs.
The cars and light trucks of the citizens of this county are not responsible for the major damage to the roads and bridges. The water trucks, sand trucks and flat bed trailers hauling heavy equipment that are servicing the oil/gas wells are doing the most damage.
They cannot tax the out-of-state trucks to cover the cost of repairs, but they should impose a road and bridge tax on the oil and gas drillers that are responsible for bringing in the trucks that are doing the damage. If you live in a rural area you know the heavy volume of these trucks.
