Local teens honored

THE ELKS lodge of Martins Ferry wishes to announce the first two winners of September Teen of the Month. The award winners are: Rebecca Deaton and Dorsey Moore. Both are seniors at Martins Ferry High School.

Deaton is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Deaton and has a class ranking of 5th with a GPA of 4.146. She is a three-year letterman of the swim team and is the field commander of the band last year and again this year. Included is nine years of summer swim team competition. She is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, volunteered at the churches Amazing Grace Day Camp and works at the Martins Ferry Pool as a lifeguard for several years.

Deaton has served as a volunteered at: Vacation Bible School, an office aid at the school, Wheeling Children's Home, the Tri-State Sexual Help Center, Soap Box Derby and at blood drives. She adds nine years on the dance club floor and two years as a member of the OVAC drill team. She loves to swim for pleasure and competition, plays the French Horn, does scrapbooking and writes music.

Her future plans include attending West Liberty University to major in Dental Hygiene and music.

Dorsey is the son of Jamie Moore and Kelly Johnson of Martins Ferry and is ranked 11th in his class with a GPA of 3.925. He is President of Student Council, member of the NHS and is captain of the football team. He also plays baseball and basketball in his activities. He is a member of the Chy-Phy and T.A.P.P. He spends his free time with Young Life, volunteers at blood drives and the Italian Festival and the Autism Walk. He works at Bob Evans.

Dorsey enjoys lifting and hanging out with his friends and shooting hoops. His future plans are to attend college and go to law school. He would love to take his three sports teams to the finals.

The Elks would like to congratulate these two fine students on their award. We wish them the best of luck with their future plans. If Rebecca and Dorsey are named "Students of the Year" their name will be submitted to the Grand Lodge for a possible $2,000 or more scholarship.
