Short-handed Monroe falls to Trail; Beallsville, Harrison post victories

Monroe Central's short-handed Seminoles suffered their second loss of the season Friday night at Old Washington.

Despite heaving home 11, three-point buckets, the Noles fell to host Buckeye Trail by 82-73. The Warriors improved to 6-3.

In a fast-paced opening quarter, Monroe was a 24-23 leader after eight minutes before Trail came back for a 41-38 halftime advantage. The Seminoles faced a 62-52 deficit after three panels.

Senior Zach Roe and junior Josh Toland combined to spark Friday's win for Buckeye. Roe connected for 21 points with Toland contributing a 20-point output. Lane Starr and Tyler Starr pitched in 11 and 10 tallies, respectively.

Monroe Central's Levi Brown rifled home a game-leading 22 points and was joined in double figures by teammates Josh Guiler (15) and Kordell Antill (11). Zack Jorris and Bryan Duffy donated nine points apiece.

The Seminoles are back at Woodsfield for a Tuesday night tipoff against Shenandoah. .

Cameron 63, Bridgeport 50

At Wolfhurst, invading Cameron used balanced scoring to hand host Bridgeport its eighth loss in 10 starts.

The West Virginia quint led 18-15 after one period and 31-25 at halftime before expanding the spread to 51-40 after three panels.

Hunter Chambers fired in a team-leading 17 points and was joined in double figures by Dragon teammates Logan Routt (15) and Mark Walker (14).

Bridgeport's QJ Williams tallied a game-leading 18 points. Teammates Bailey McGrath and Dallas Fields contributed 11 and 10 tallies, respectively.

The Bulldogs , who rolled in Friday's jayvee game, were scheduled to visit Steubenville Central this evening.

Steubenville Central 78, Barnesville 59

At Barnesville, the visiting Crusaders connected for 31 first period points en route to a 31-12 lead after one panel. Barnesville remained behind 47-25 at halftime and 65-47 after three panels.

Central's Ryan Fletcher fired in a game-leading 25 points. Also netting double figure outputs for the Jefferson County quint were Zac Harrington (15) and Michael Barber (13).

Barnesville junior Zach Houston hooped a team-leading 22 markers. Dylan MacMillan provided 15-point support. Brandon Burkhart netted nine points and landed seven rebounds. MacMillan recorded six steals.

Central led 26-16 off the glass. The Shamrocks were charted for 21 turnovers compared to 17 for the Crusaders.

Barnesville is slated to visit Bellaire this evening.

Beallsville 64, Valley 49

At Beallsville, Big Blue prevailed to run its record to 6-5 preceding tonight's scheduled home game against Bishop Donahue.

Coach Casey Tolzda's Blue Devils took a 13-11 lead after one period, then extended the spread to 30-21 at halftime. The West Virginia quint faced a 52-39 deficit after three panels.

Teryn Jarrett's 18 points topped Beallsville. Dalton Secrest provided 15-point support and freshman Chase Mercer scored 12. Kyle Groves and Tristan Palmer netted nine points apiece.

Haden Lancaster hooped 15 counters for Valley with teammate Jack Wells contributing 11 markers.

Harrison Central 65, Edison 46

At Cadiz, the host Huskies raced to 20-7 command after one period and never looked back in knocking off the Wildcats.

Coach Justin Clifford's quint led 37-17 at halftime and 51-31 after three panels.

Rashaen Mitchell connected for a game-leading 21 points and was supported by teammates Fletcher Watt and Nick Pelegreen who tossed in 11 and 10 markers, respectively. Alec Jones topped Edison with 13 counters.

Clay-Battelle 76, St. John's 39

AT the Tyler High Invitational, St. John Central trailed Clay-Battelle 20-13 after one period before falling behind by 39-21 at halftime. The Green faced a 55-26 deficit after three panels.

DJ Shoemaker and Kyle Imer netted nine points apiece for St. John with Garrett Holubeck hooping eight markers.

The Fighting Irish were scheduled to oppose host Tyler in tonight's (6:00) consolation game.
