Apparently another one had managed to slip below the Buds' radar. But we really don't blame ourselves, as this particular eatery is only open two nights per week.
But duty calls, even if the window of opportunity is much smaller than that to which we are accustomed. So as soon as 4 o'clock rolled around last Friday, the Buds were off to Frank Masciarelli's Bella Pizzeria in Bellaire.
The Bella Pizzeria , located at 3565 Guernsey Street, opens each week on Friday and Saturday evening from 4 to 9 p.m.- or until the dough runs out, so ya better get there early!
Stuffed crust pizza
Patrons can order their thick square pizza by the tray (starting at $11.49) or by the slice (starting at $1.25). If you're more of a round pizza person, they have those too in a 16" thin crust, a 16" medium crust and the whopping 20" thin crust known as "The Ginormous." Yikes! Bella even has a stuffed crust pizza for those who just can't get enough gooey cheese.
In addition to cheese and pepperoni, pizza may be topped with such items as fresh cut portabella mushrooms, sauteed sweet onions, black olives, mild or hot banana peppers, extra Sugardale Championi pepperoni, authentic Italian Fontanini sausage and extra cheese. If you're like us you are thinking they all sound pretty darn good, and in that case patrons can choose to "add a little of each" for an additional 7 bucks.
Bella also offers cheesy bread topped with mozzarella and asiago cheeses and their own buttery garlic sauce and a secret blend of herbs and spices. With two sides of pizza sauce for dipping the 134x9" treat will cost just $5 or $4 with the purchase of a tray. Also available are pepperoni rolls with sauce which ring in at $3 or get them "stuffed" for 39 cents per additional item.
Wanting to get a taste of everything, the Buds decided to tag team the menu with Bud Em taking home pepperoni rolls and cheesy bread and Bud Shaunna locking in the stuffed crust pizza. The result? Both Buds agreed that Bella Pizza made some de-lic-ious food!
The cheesy bread was perfectly seasoned with the garlic butter and spices and topped with plenty of cheese. Yum! Bud Em's daughter was in heaven as she ate the pepperoni roll - which was nearly as big as her arm, by the way! There was so much that there was plenty to go around when unexpected guests dropped in that evening.
As for Bud Shaunna's stuffed crust pizza, the Buds have three words: OFF THE HOOK. This had to have been the largest stuffed crust pizza known to man. Seriously, the stuffed part of the crust was at least two inches thick and stuffed with deliciously gooey cheese, while the pizza itself was cut into eight very large wedges. The non-stuffed part of the pie was of the thin-crust variety, and topped with cheese, sauce and pepperoni. While it was a bit on the pricey side at $16.49, this monster pizza was totally worth it in size and flavor - it was enough to feed Bud Shaunna and her hubby for two days! And hey, if you're only indulging once a week, go for it!
For the most part, pizza is pizza, but Bella Pizzeria has definitely gone out of their way to set themselves apart from the rest. The Buds definitely found a winner here!
