ST. CLAIRSVILLE -Terry Dayton had 10 years in as a barber when he decided to hang up his shears in 1997.
Dayton graduated form the Wheeling Barber College in 1986 and began his career at Denny's House of Hair and Snips in St. Clairsville before striking out on his own in 1990.
The next seven years, Dayton owned and operated Buzcuts in St. C.
TERRY?DAYTON stands inside the new location for Buzcuts barber shop, the same location as the former location of Buzcuts at 46060 National Rd., Suite 8 in St. Clairsville. Buzcuts is housed in the plaza adjacent to the BP station, across the overpass from Belmont College.
Running his own shop began to take its toll on Dayton and he admittedly became burned out.
He sought a steady position with good pay and state corrections provided that opportunity.
But recently Dayton felt that draw to return to the barber chair and resigned his position and began searching for a place to start cutting hair again.
He inquire about a couple places, but when the spot at 46060 National Rd. West, Suite 8 became available, he couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Walking into his new shop was like a trip back in time ... literally.
That's because Suite 8 is the exact location that Buzcuts was housed when Dayton previously was in business.
"It had been an apartment, but the same paint I used was still on the walls," Dayton said laughing.
"I've been out of this business for 16 years and I missed it.
"I really did miss it.
"And I was thrilled to be able to move back into my old shop.
"I'm glad to be back doing what I love."
Buzcuts is a full-service barber shop, catering to the entire family from grandparents on down to younger kids.
Dayton's prices are the same too as when he retired: $12 for a gentleman's hair cut and $15-17 for the ladies. Kids' haircuts are priced at $1 per year of age.
Have a 2-year-old needing a trim? Throw a couple bucks in your pocket and head on down.
Dayton has purchased all new equipment for his shop, but it's still the same equipment he used during his previous stint. Similarly, the styles of hair he's seen men requesting haven't changed much either.
Men's hair is easy. They've been wearing some of the same styles for the last 20-30 years," Dayton admitted. "Women's styles seem to change with the season almost. They are more fashion conscience."
Dayton will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.; Fridays from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Starting last Wednesday and running through July 1, Buzcuts will give away three free gift certificates for one full year of hair cuts.
The drawings will take place on May 15, June 15 and July 1.
Three lucky winners will receive eight free cuts/stylings, each, for one year.
Appointments can be made at (740) 391-3157 and walk-ins are welcome.
Dayton invites customers both old and new to stop down, catch up on the news of the day and receive quality hair cut at a quality price.
