Monroe stuns Ferry in five

Monroe Central had its back firmly planted against the wall inside the Tolbert Gymnasium, dropping two consecutive games to begin its match against the Lady Riders.

However, the youthful Lady Seminoles roared back and eventually posted a five-game victory by scores of 17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16 and 16-14 to even their record at 1-1.

Kaleigh Marley had eight kills, while Erin Miller had seven and Kelsey Dick had five and two blocks.

Carley Baker had 15 points and 25 assists. Brittany Hooper had 11 points and Laycie Ball had 10 points, two aces and two blocks. Katelyn Dimmerling also had 24 assists.

Martins Ferry received a strong performance from Tyrah King. The sophomore had 11 points and two kills.

Morgan Carpenter had nine kills. Mercedez McLeon had seven kills and Sarah Staats added six kills.

Shayle DeLeonardis added 12 points, 11 digs and four kills.

St. John's topples East

Richland Christian

St. John Central made quick work of East Richland Christian in a volleyball match Thursday evening in Bellaire.

The Lady Irish prevailed by scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-4.

Amber LaMotte had 12 points and nine aces, while Emily LeMasters had seven points and six aces. Gabby Santinoceto added seven tallies.

East Richland Christian was led by Alyssa Crowley's three kills and three points. Rebekah Mitchell had three digs and a kill. Alyssa Blodgett had two kills and two points. Susanna Yourko had 26 sets.

Fort Frye sweeps River

The homestanding Lady Pilots were dealt a tough three-game setback Thursday evening, falling to PVC-rival Fort Frye by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16.

Sophomore dandy Jensen Caretti once again led the way with eight points, 15 kills, two aces, three blocks and nine digs.

Monica Curtis added seven points, 15 assists and six digs. Amanda Bennett had nine points, while Mackenzie Marshall had 11 points and five digs. Mackenzie Wade added 11 points and five digs. Abby Caldwell netted nine points.
