ADENA -- Buckeye Local School District Board of Education members again took their monthly meeting out into the communities served by the school district, returning to the gym at Buckeye West Elementary in Adena on Monday evening for the October meeting.

More than 20 individuals were present for the meeting, with a good portion of them being employees or contractors with the district, associated with the host school or in the employment of one of those entities.

With all board members present and participating in the vote a number of administrative contracts were approved.

As is the general practice in the local district, such potential changes are presented as one group for voting purposes.

Board member Joe Zelek was the only member to vote against approval of the contracts, and he couched his action as an objection to the nominees being grouped together for approval or disapproval purposes. He did not single any one person from among the administrative team as having been the person he would not have approved presenting with a new contract.

Five year contracts were approved by the board for Angela Hicks, administrative assistant, and also for Scott Celestin, director of student services.

Four year administrative contracts were approved for Susan Nolan, North Elementary Principal; Coy Sudvary, principal at Buckeye Local High School, and Vince Pastre, technology coordinator for the district.

A three-year contract was approved for Kim Leonard, principal at South Elementary School.

Mr. Zelek offered a no vote on the proposal.

Zelek asked if it is mandatory that such contract offers be extended as a group, rather than on an individual basis. Superintendent said it is not mandatory but rather is simply common practice in the local School district.

In other matters, it was announced Paren't /Teacher conferences will be held at the elementary schools Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 to 8 p.m., and at the huniot high and high school from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. that same day.

The next regular meeting of the Buckeye Local School district board of Education will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, at North Elementary in Brilliant at 6 p.m. that same day.
