MARTINS FERRY -- Taking care of business.

The Martins Ferry Chamber of Commerce has launched a promotion to do just that. It is one that can be both enjoyable and profitable.

Shop Small Martins Ferry Saturday is planned for Nov. 30. The Martins Ferry Chamber is doing its part to make sure businesses in the Purple City benefit from the observance.

Sixteen downtown businesses are participating in the promotion in conjunction with the national Small Business Saturday observance the same day.

Purple City shoppers that day need to stop at the Martins Ferry Chamber Office, located at 108 S. Zane Highway, beginning at 9 a.m. to receive the list of participating merchants, along with a map designating their locations.

Shoppers must visit 10 of the 16 participating businesses to be eligible for two grand prizes. The merchants will sign the map, and after shoppers have 10 businesses signatures, they bring it back to the chamber office by 3 p.m. that day.

Their names will be entered into a drawing. Each of the participating businesses are donating a $25 gift certificate. The 16 certificates will be divided into two grand prizes, each winner getting eight gift certificates, totaling $200.

Participating businesses include: Total Sports Connection, Ferry Hardware, Z's Jewelry, Fashion Manor, A Cut Above, Martins Ferry Carryout, Sun Video, Tropical Rays, Beauty Barks Day Spa, Electic Hair Studio, Don Falbo's Barber Shop, Studio Red, DeLuxe Toy & Hobby, Cline's Sweeper, Take a Peek and Zontini's Pizza.

Shoppers must be at least 18 years of age.

"We believe Shop Small Saturday will bring some added activity to our business community that day. We have a lot of great businesses in town and they are stepping up to attract more shoppers," said Chamber President Dorothy Powell. "We are excited about this promotion. It also fits in well with Christmas in the Park."
