High Tech

LIBRARIES ARE treasures. They offer boundless opportunities for knowledge and entertainment.

Local libraries have felt the brunt of government budget cutbacks, but still remain vital institutions in our community for young and old alike. Belmont County voters strongly expressed their support in November by passing the district library levy.

On Friday, the St. Clairsville Public Library stepped into the limelight. It is raising the bar for its clientele.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the public library's new technology center. The center boasts nine new computers and increased wireless capabilities.

The project would not have come to fruition if not for the donations from the Feisley family, Friends of the Library, and the library's Board of Trustees. All told, $17,500 was donated.

The Feisley family will also be donating two new iPads for the tech center.

The new technology center is available for public use. The computers are meant for public use and are equipped with Microsoft programs and high-speed internet. The tech center also has an area set aside for patrons to use the wireless internet on their own devices.

The new tech center continues St. Clairsville Library's commitment to the public. The library also offers eBooks and downloads in the digital catalogue. Titles in the digital catalogue are supported on most eReaders and tablets, and patrons can access them easily on the stclibrary.org website.

The St. Clairsville Public Library is located at 108 West Main St. and is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is a facility we urge local residents to visit and take advantage of its many state-of-the-art features. We also commend all those benefactors who made the technology center become reality.
