Buds find glorious goodies in Centre Market

Traditionally, come the first week of January (after a month of overindulging in holiday goodies), most folks are trying hard to stick to New Year's resolutions - many of which include "working out" and "losing weight."

Phooey! It's times like these that the Buds kinda like to go against the flow. The gyms are way too crowded, the temperature is too cold to run in and .... there are bakeries calling our name!

On a recent excursion to Centre Market, the Buds stumbled upon newly opened Cookiepops and simply couldn't walk away. The bakery, transplanted from St. Clairsville, is located at 2259 Market St. and offers an overwhelming array of cookies, cakepops, specialty cupcakes, cookie baskets and bouquets, brownies, muffins and many other specialty treats. All of the yummy goodies are made daily on premises.

Fighting the impulse to just get one of everything, the Buds spent a good ten minutes just settling on a few items each. Aside from the many colorful and creative cut-out cookies and the mouthwatering selection of cupcakes, the Buds were tempted by lovely French Macaroons, Buckeyes, Linzer Tarts and Mini Apple Tarts. Torture it was!!

Bud Em finally decided on an iced cookie, a Black Forest cupcake, a Whoopie Pie and Market Mud, which came very highly recommended by the sales associate. This little stockpile of confections - meant to last a few days - sadly lasted but a few hours! *Sigh*

The iced cookie was the first casualty, hardly making it to the car. The thick and buttery cookie was beautifully decorated and delicious - the kind that makes you want to eat about five more. The decadent Black Forest cupcake was surely Bud Em's favorite of the bunch! A base of moist, dark chocolate cake with cherries inside was topped with a towering swirl of cherry buttercream and garnished with drizzled chocolate and a cherry on top. Wow! This perhaps may have been the best cupcake EVER! The Market Mud was saved for last. This concoction was a peanut butter and marshmallow, sweet and salty treat! It was no wonder that it's the employee's favorite treat!

Bud Shaunna opted for the Buckeyes, a gingerbread cookie, and a Salted Caramel cupcake, which was also highly recommended by the sales associate, who claimed they were "dangerous." Dangerous in a good way, we reckon!

The buckeye would not have survived the trip out the door, had it not been that both Buds' hands were full. But once Bud S had a seat in the car, one of the three Buckeyes was the first thing down the hatch. Sweet milk chocolate with a creamy peanut butter center - how can you go wrong? Ummm... it would have been easy to eat all of these, but alas, Bud S had to save something for the hubby.

The Salted Caramel cupcake was indeed everything the sales associate said and more. OH-EM-GEE this cupcake was off the hook! The moist white cupcake was filled in the center with a gob of gooey caramel and topped with icing, caramel drizzle, a mini pretzel twist and two kernels of caramel corn - what a lovely touch! Bud Shaunna would most definitely order this again, but by the dozen!

The gingerbread cookie was the last to meet its maker. Made with real gingerbread, this festive cookie was dressed with icing, complete with dried cranberries for buttons and cinnamon red hots as eyes. It was soft and delicious - a definite winner, just like everything else we tasted.

Maybe we're not into making resolutions, but we will go on record and say the Buds resolve to visit Cookiepops again, and we suggest you do the same. We know you can't resist!
