James R. Weeks, 88, of Shadyside, OH, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV. He was born May 1, 1926 in Shadyside, OH, a son of the late Alfred Bruce and Margaret Jane Tschappat Weeks.
He was a retired employee of the Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel Corporation's Benwood Mill, a co-owner of the former Ponderosa, a member of the VFW Post 626 in Bellaire and the American Legion Post 521 in Shadyside. He was a graduate of Shadyside High School, Class of 1944 and was a US Army veteran of World War II. Also he was baptized at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Shadyside.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Bruce Weeks, and four sisters, Grace Ebeling, Juanita Freeman, Margaret Baker and Elizabeth Potts.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Betty L. Teasley Weeks, whom he married on May 4, 1946; five children, James R. (Molly) Weeks of Orlando, Florida, Kathy (Andy) Kazmirski of Shadyside, OH, John R. (Nancy) Weeks of Orlando, Florida, Lynda J. (Bob) Williams of Shadyside, OH and Lisa (Terry) Davis of Bellaire, OH. Also 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, OH on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eric White officiating. Interment in the Rock Hill Cemetery in Bellaire, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shadyside High School Athletic Director's Fund, 3890 Lincoln Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio 43947.
The Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct Full Military Honors on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
