Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District announces the 2014 Big Tree Contest. The Big Tree Contest will give recognition to the largest white oak within Belmont County.
Residents of Belmont County are invited to search for the biggest true white oak, Quercus alba, in the county. The white oak tree can be found from your back yard to a park. The winning tree's landowner or nominator will be recognized at the Belmont SWCD 69th Annual Meeting & Banquet on October 23, 2014.
Trees will be measured utilizing the three measurements of circumference, height, and average crown spread to obtain the total points.
Entries must be received by September 9, 2014. The Belmont County Big Tree Contest Nomination Form can be picked up at 101 Market Street St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950, can be mailed or emailed to you, or can be found on the website at www.belmontswcd.org/.

Belmont SWCD is having a family day event at the Captina Preserve on August 15, 2014 from 9am to 4pm. Our daily events include Tree Id, Bird Id, Equipment Safety, Fish Shocking, Exploring South Fork Creek salamanders, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, etc., Fishing Basics, and Archery. The event and lunch is Free. The Captina Preserve is on State Route 26 South off State Route 148 before New Castle on your right, there will be signs.
