CRESCENT — The beat — or beatings — continued Sunday for Shadyside as the Casketmakers rolled past homestanding Barton, 15-2, in the first game of an Ohio Valley Baseball League doubleheader on Henning Field.

Shadyside, which clinched the top seed in the upcoming playoffs last week, banged out 13 hits off a trio of Braves’ pitchers in winning for the 14th straight time and upping its mark to a superb 15-1.

Kraig Kubancik and B.A. Holloway evenly divided half-a-dozen base hits, with Kubancik driving in three runs with two singles and a double. Holloway doubled twice and singled. Jared Clovis (single, double, 2RBI) and Hunter Westlake (2 singles, 3RBI) combined for four hits and five runs batted in. Nathan Butts had an RBI single and sacrifice fly, while T.J. Sliva belted a run-scoring double. No. 8 hitter Chase Kinemond, despite not recording a hit, scored three times.

“That’s what we are capable of offensively,” Shadyside player/manager Logan Hudson stressed. “We can hit the ball up-and-down our order. We don’t have any weak spots from 1-9.”

Hudson did his part on the mound where he turned in a complete-game effort that featured just two strikeouts. He walked three and hit two batters while scattering four hits. He surrendered both runs in the first inning before settling into a groove.

“I felt really good out there,” Hudson admitted. “After I got through the first inning everything was pretty good from there on.”

After spotting the Braves (8-7) the 2-0 lead, the Casketmakers doubled that output in the second for a 4-2 advantage. An 8-run fourth in which 13 batters went to the plate put the game out of reach.

Bailey McGrath doubled twice and knocked in a run for Barton. Ryan Lovette suffered the loss. He was followed to the hill by Darrin Heatherington and McGrath.

Barton held a 5-0 lead with one out in the top of the fifth of the second game before storms rolled through Belmont County. The game was suspended and no makeup date was announced.

The Braves are scheduled to host Marshall County tonight, weather permitting, at 6.
