PREP ROUNDUP: River hands Fort Frye first defeat

HANNIBAL — River outscored visiting Fort Frye 6-2 in the second overtime Thursday night to squeak out a 33-29 girls’ high school basketball victory inside the R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

Carsyn Reynolds meshed a pair of charity tosses and Riley Lollathin added a late free throw as the Pilots (7-2) handed the Cadets (6-1) their first loss of the season and beat them for just the second time in 15 seasons.

Lauren Flannery netted game scoring honors with 14 points, including a quartet of bonus bombs. Lollathin finished with eight points.

The teams were deadlocked at 25 at the end of regulation, and each squad scored just two points in the first extra session.

“We slowed the game down with our ball-control offense, especially in the second half,” River head coach Rick Isaly said. “We held it for a long time at one stretch.”
