Barnesville duo wins at New Lex

NEW LEXINGTON — Three area wrestlers captured championships at the Jimmy Wood Invitational Saturday at New Lexington High School.

Barnesville, which finished third in the team race behind Lancaster (255.5) and New Lexington (209.5) with 193 points, had two of the tilists in Brylan Clouse (182) and Zack Meade (220).

Clouse earned a 4-3 tie-breaker victory over Granville’s Keegan Van Meter, while Meade pinned New Lexington’s Cole Gilligan in 1-minute, 36-seconds. Clouse was third in the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament.

Five other Shamrocks reached the podium. Carter Wells (113) and Cameron Woods (152) were both fourth, while Griffen Stephen (106) was fifth. Dylan Glotfelty (145) and Owen Oliver (160) both finished sixth.

Martins Ferry, which was fifth as a team with 144 points, had the other champion in Drake Dobson (195).

The senior, who was third in the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament, pinned Philo’s Blake Dayton in 3:49.

Other Purple Riders reaching the podium were Chase Goff (160) who was third, as was Kameron Hughes (170). Finishing fourth were Noah Duck (170) and Richard McFarland (182).

Frank Ferguson Brooke Classic

WELLSBURG — St. Clairsville finished sixth in the team standings with 93 points.

The Red Devils had eight placewinners, including sophomore Koen Kish (120) who was a runnerup.

Kish, who was third at the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament last weekend, was pinned by Seneca Valley’s Alejandro HerreraRondo, who improved to 30-1, in the finals.

Kish is now an impressive 31-3.

Also placing third was Justice McCamick (220). Taking fourth was Derek Witsberger (195), while James Dobbs (182) was fifth. Finishing sixth were Caden Stout (132) and Trey Delguzzo (285). Austin DaRe (138) and Reese Skaggs (170) were seventh. Corey Naylor (152) was eighth.

Watkins Memorial

Invitational

PATASKALA — Bellaire’s Joseph Bonfini (120) won his weight class with a pin of Watkins Memorial’s Braden Renna in 1:12.

The Big Reds were 11th in the team standings with 91 points.

Springboro won with 241.

In addition to Bonfini, other Big Reds placing were third-placers CodyAlbaugh (160) and Joseph Hoepfner (285). Griffen Heatherington (145) was fourth.

Brandon Mamie (170) was seventh and Nick Beckett (152) eighth.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shadyside 76, Steub CC 57

SHADYSIDE — A few days after sinking 16 three-point field goals, the Tigers nailed 15 in a victory over the Crusaders.

Four Shadyside players scored in double figures, including Baylee Wach (13), Macy Coffland (13), Tory Hendershot (12) and Syd Destifanes (10).

Beallsville 64, Paden City 38

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Ashlie Louden scored 16 points and Jayden Gabel added 15 as the Blue Devils cruised past the Wildcats.

East Richland Christian 31, Tr-State Christian (Pa.)

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Josie Stephens scored 16 points as to lead East Richland Christian to a victory over Tri-State Christian.

BOYS

East Richland Christian 47, Belpre Christian 45

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Lions were led by Duncan Pagano with 29 points. Josh Garcia added 11.

Monroe Central 70, Bellaire 40

Monroe Central scored a repeat win over Bellaire Saturday night.

The Seminoles were led by Luke Burkhart’s 15 points. Wyatt Young added 10.

The Big Reds were paced by David Zwack’s 12 points. A.J. McCarthy added 11.
