Francis leads Shadyside to baseball win over SCC

SHADYSIDE — Rhys Francis doubled and scored a run to help Shadyside blank Steubenville Catholic, 6-0, Thursday in high school baseball action at Fleming Field.

The Tigers jumped ahead 2-0 in the first before finishing with a flourish — scoring four times during the final two innings.

Ian Carpenter added a single and an RBI for Shadyside.

Dom Argentine had twio hits for the Crusaders.

River 3, Magnolia 2 (8 inn.)

NEW MARTINSVILLE — River scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to top Magnolia.

Carter Dennis doubled and plated a run for the Pilots.

Buckeye Local 7, East Liverpool 2

CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local exploded for six sixth-inning runs in rallying past East Liverpool in a Buckeye 8 encounter.

Alan Burkett and Dalton Watt each belted two singles and plated a run for the Panthers, who won their second straight.

Daniel Kelly singled and knocked in two runs for Buckeye Local, while Owen Long doubled and knocked in a run.

Buckeye Trail 5, Bridgeport 2

BROOKSIDE — Creighton Gazda had two singles, a double and three RBI as Buckeye Trail scored three runs in the fifth inning en route to topping Bridgeport under the lights on the Neikro Diamond.

Caden Burga added three ingles and a triple for the Warriors, who also received two singles, a double and an RBI from Ronnie Rominger.

Matt Fouty doubled and singled for the Bulldogs.

SOFTBALL

Shadyside 13, Barnesville 1

BARNESVILLE — Kylie Jo Baker homered, and knocked in four runs as Shadyside picked up its first victory of the season at Memorial Park.

Izzy Swords added two hits, including a double, and two RBI for the LTs. Holly Butler and Tory Hendershot each had two hits.

Erin Hannahs laced three singles for the Shamrocks (1-2), who dropped their second straight. Bailey Leach added two singles and Desti Broomhall had two hits and an RBI.

Bellaire 3, Martins Ferry 2 (8 inn.)

ST. JOE — One day after falling in the battle for the Dibbyball Trophy, Bellaire came back and downed Martins Ferry in extras.

Natalie Stoner scored the winning run with two outs when a Purple Riders error led to her racing home from second. She finished with two singles and an RBI.

Katrina Davis had two hits for the Big Reds (2-2), while Kaylan Brown singled and plated a run.

Sidne Sidon belted two doubles for Martins Ferry (1-2), while Alea Funkhouser had two singles.

Monroe Central 4, Bridgeport 3

WOODSFIELD — Rymie Bishop had two singles and an RBI as Monroe Central held off a late Bridgeport rally to down the Bulldogs at City Park.

Kaitlyn Matz homered for the Seminoles (3-0), while Allee Zwick laced two singles.

Sierra Simeth doubled and had two RBI for Bridgeport (1-1).

Harrison Central 8, Buckeye Local 7

CADIZ — Joclyn Peshek smacked two doubles, two singles and knocked in three runs as Harrison Central held off Buckeye Local.

The Huskies (3-1) took a six-run lead into the seventh, but the Panthers scored five to make it close.

Sarah Touville added three RBI for Harrison Central, while Britton Positano had two hits.

Alexia Williams belted her second homer in as many days for the Panthers.

Frontier 6, River 3

SARDIS — Haley Ball had three singles and an RBI and Abby Eddy belted three hits, including a double, as Frontier doubled up River.

Livi Rose and Katie Lively each doubkled and drove in a run for the Pilots (1-1).

Toronto 6, St. John 2

TORONTO — The Red Knights stayed unbeaten on Thursday, defeating the Irish, 6-2, to improve to 3-0.

The Red Knights were led by three singles, a triple and an RBI from catcher Shanna Reed. Jamie Anderson had a triple and an RBI, while Abbie Liddick and Riley Kinsey also drove in runs.

Jayden Lowe tripled for the Irish (0-2)

Toronto plays at Shadyside today.
