Prep Roundup: Bridgeport, Shadyside, River all advance in Division IV softball

WOLFHURST — Brooklynn Ruble tossed a two-hitter, striking out 15 as Bridgeport doubled up Conotton Valley on Monday 6-3 in an Ohio Division IV sectional softball opener at Irene Ehni Memorial Field.

The Bulldogs, who scored all of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings will host Shadyside on Wednesday for a sectional championship.

Jaren Tucker laced two singles and knocked in three runs for Bridgeport, while Kayleigh Roberts singled and plated two runs.

Shadyside 10, Beallsville 1

SHADYSIDE — Brooke Reager struck out 10 and walked none in fashioning a two-hitter in Shadyside’s sectional tournament victory against Beallsville at the Mead Township Athletic Complex.

Tory Hendershot blasted a homer and triple fior the Tigers, while collecting three RBI, while Holly Butler and Isabella Swords both had two singles and an RBI. Reager aided her own cause with a single and two RBI.

River 12, Shenandoah 0

SARDIS — Katie Lively pitched a one-hitter as River blanked Shenandoah.

The Pilots will visit top seed Strasburg on Wednesday.

Livi Rose had two doubles for the Pilots and drove in three runs. Lively aided her own cause with two singles and two RBI, while Riley Lollathin tripled and knocked in a run.

Regular Season

St. John 13, Jefferson County Christian 3

St. John 5, Jefferson County Christian 1

BELLAIRE — Kyla Kull fired a no-hitter and Jayden Lowe twirled a one-hitter and Kyla Kull as St. John wrapped up its season with a pair of victories at Amanda’s Field.

Lowe struck out nine and walked none in the opener and Kull fanned 10 and walked two in the nightcapp as Jerry Magistro finished with 19-year coaching career with 347 victories.

Nixon rapped a triple and knocked in two runs in Game 2, while Shay Horvath had two doubles and two RBI.

Nixon had two singles for the Irish in Game 1, while Horvath had two doubles and an RBI. Donnie Ruza had a single and two RBI, Kasi Gillespie doubled, singled and knocked in a run and Abigail Giffin collected two singles and an RBI. Kull had two doubles, a single and three RBI.

Steubenville 14, Union Local 11

STEUBENVILLE — Union Local scored 10 runs during the four innings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Steubenville.

Kaden Mercer homered and knocked in two runs for the Jets, who open tournament play at Coshocton on Wednesday. Madi Sells doubled, singled and knocked in two runs, while Casey Kildow also plated a pair of runs.

Harrison Central 9, Edison 6

RICHMOND — Harrison Central exploded for all of its runs in the first three innings and then held on against Edison at Jefferson Lake State Park.

Kobey Johnson belted a homer, two singles and finished with three RBI for the Huskies, while Lexi Ferguson had two singles and three RBI. Britt Positano added two singles and two RBI, while Madison Young had two singles and an RBI.

BASEBALL

St. Clairsville 10, Barnesville 0

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — St. Clairsville exploded for nine sixth-inning runs in handing Barnesville its fourth straight loss.

John Luke DeFilippo and Matthew Busby both had two singles andan RBI for the Red Devils (12-9).

Dustin carrothers picked up another pitching victory, allowing three hits and fanning four.

Cade Hannahs had two singles and Jared Kernen tripled.

Bellaire 7, River 0

NEFFS — Cole Porter struck out 10, walked none and pitched a four-hitter as Bellaire blanked River at John Blacker Field.

Porter aided his own cause with two singles, a double and an RBI. Cody Albaugh had two singles and two RBI.

Martins Ferry 11, Indian Creek 4

MINGO — Martins Ferry scored six first-inning runs and hat propelled the Purple Riders past Indian Creek.

Logan Smith belted three singles for Martins Ferry and knocked in four RBI. Dasyn Hores laced three singles, while Jake Probst had a double, single and two RBI.

Edison 8, Harrison Central 5

CADIZ — Andrew Kinney paced Edison with two hits and a RBI, while George Ash followed with a triple and two RBI as the Wildcats upended Harrison Central.
