Shadyside volleyball tops River; Buckeye Local gets first victory

HANNIBAL — Shadyside bounced back impressively from its first loss with a sweep of River, 25-14, 25-19, 25-11.

The Tigers were led by sophomore Gentry Brown, who had 12 kills and six digs. Senior Tory Hendershot added 11 kills, three aces and four digs. Caroline Mercer chipped in 24 assists, five aces and four digs. Paige Gorby had five kills. Senior standout Baylee Wach had two kills, three aces, three digs and a block. Kylie Jo Baker had four kills and two blocks.

River was led by Hannah Raper’s six kills, five assists and 11 digs. Rilyn Haught had three blocks and 11 digs.

Buckeye Local d. Bridgeport 25-8, 20-25, 25-11, 25-12

CONNORVILLE — The Panthers broke into the win column with a four-set effort against the Bulldogs.

Abbey Kinyo led Buckeye with 12 aces, 21 assists, 23 points, nine digs. Megan Valuska added 10 kills, 13 points and two aces. Regan Hunter had two blocks and 12 points.

Beallsville d. Cameron

25-5, 25-9, 25-18

CAMERON — Despite falling to Beallsville, Audrey Bock gathered 25 digs and an ace to lead the Dragons.

Amber Yoho and Logan Schrack added three aces and one ace, respectively, for Cameron.

Harrison Central d. Bellaire

25-11, 25-13, 25-7

BELLAIRE — The invading Huskies posted a sweep of the Big Reds.

Bellaire was led by Gracelyn Maupin’s four aces. Jayden Lowe had 11 digs and three kills, while Bryanna Beckett added seven digs and six assists.

Buckeye Local d. Martins Ferry, 179-183

AT BECWOOD — Buckeye Local posted a four-shot victory against the rival Purple Riders.

Buckeye Local’s Aiden Polanski finished with a round of 41 to earn medalist honors.

CAMBRIDGE — The Cadets fired a 367, which was nine shots better than runner-up St. Clairsville Monday afternoon.

Meadowbrook (382) and River View (417) also took part.

St. C.’s Saul Crist was the match medalist with a round of 84.

Tekely Leads JM

Girls Past St. C.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Lauren Tekely carded a 48 to lead John Marshall (205) to victory over the Red Devils (224) on Monday at the Par-36 Belmont Hills Country Club.

Lakyn Parker turned in a 50 for the Monarchs, while Bethany Schaber (53), Sydney Coss (54) and Payten Clark (54) also contributed in the victory.

Brooke Chamberlain earned medalist honors with a round of 43 for St. Clairsville.

John Marshall 8, Union Local 1

GLEN DALE — Cooper Curto recorded a hat trick and Cameron Anderson added a pair of goals as John Marshall upended Union Local.

Jude Thomas and Michael Games also found the back of the net in the win and Cameron McClure collected six saves.
